Is Ilhan Omar a Qatari asset?

The Jerusalem PostIlhan Omar is a “Qatari asset,” according to a Jerusalem Post report. Now I know Ilhan Omar is the target of many for her far left and antisemitic views. Many would like to see Ohmar go down. But let’s not do what many on the left do, and spread FAKE NEWs before we fully understand the facts.

The evidence provided by The Jerusalem Post did not come directly from their own investigators. The Jerusalem Post states:

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota-5th) was recruited by a foreign government, received funding from a foreign government, and passed sensitive information through intermediaries to Iran, a Florida court has been told.

The claims came during testimony by Kuwati-born Canadian businessman Alan Bender, who was giving evidence in the trial of Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad al-Thani. The Qatari emir’s brother stands accused of ordering his American bodyguard to murder two people, and of holding an American citizen hostage. His deposition, obtained by Al Arabiya English, was authenticated by the attorney for the plaintiffs, according to the publication.

Speaking from Toronto by video link, Bender told the Florida District Court that he met with Qatar’s Secretary to the Emir for Security Affairs Mohammad bin Ahmed bin Abdullah al-Masnad and two other senior Qatari officials. According to his sworn deposition (click here for the transcripts), the three officials told him: “If it wasn’t for our cash, Ilhan Omar would be just another black Somali refugee in America collecting welfare and serving tables on weekends.” If you have time take a look at those transcripts, it shows all the interesting misdirections and intrigue going on – but again, this is just one person’s testimony.

“Since the day she was elected, Saudi Arabian trolls and mouthpieces have targeted Omar with misinformation and conspiracy theories,” a spokesperson for the Congresswoman wrote in a statement to The Jerusalem Post.

So the chain of evidence is as follows:

  1. The Jerusalem Post got its information from Al Arabiya English.
  2. Al Arabiya English got its information from an attorney of Kuwati-born Canadian businessman Alan Bender.
  3. Alan Bender got his information from Qatar’s Secretary to the Emir for Security Affairs Mohammad bin Ahmed bin Abdullah al-Masnad and two other senior Qatari officials.

This is a fairly damning report on Ohmar. But to be clear, this story has at least 3 people in the chain of evidence. Could the story be true? Yes. Could the story be a smear? Yes. Is it a guaranteed fact? No. Should it be investigated? Yes. Will it be investigated? Maybe. The claims of money transfers could be investigated to see if Ohmar really did profit from this alleged transaction. We shall see how this develops.

Regardless if a transaction is true, it is the author’s take that Ohmar may be willing to help Iranian operatives for free. Any money would be just a bonus. Ilhan Omar regular votes against American interests. Most recently, she voted against recognizing the early 20th-century Armenian Genocide, which passed the chamber by 405 to 11 votes with overwhelming bipartisan support. She openly supports BDS.

The point of this article is to remind folks to not make claims as absolutes until adequately adjudicated. As conservatives, we should believe that all deserve due process, something the left does not. There are enough direct actions Ohmar has already done to make us want to oppose her views. We don’t need to wallow in conspiracies until proven – though we do need to investigate.
